me and my friend sarah went to barcelona for a few days just before school starts again
and the whole normal life returns, yargh
16/08
we got up at 3:30 and walked to the station to take the train to schiphol.
our plan departed at around 7 so we were perfectly on time...
we started pretty good with some starbucks goodies (finally holland is giving in)
around 9ish we arrived at barcelona airport and it was RAINING for gods sake
anyway we collected our suitcases and got on the aerobus to plaça catalunya which was close to our hotel.
saw some really cute neighbourhoods and buildings from the bus and got a first impression of barcelona.
we stayed at hotel roma reial at plaça reial, a very old gorgeous square with bows and a fountain it was just real pretty with the yellow colors and everything.
dumped everything in the hotel and went into the city.
we walked a little through the cutest little streets with the buildings so close together you can actually enjoy your coffee on the balcony with the rest of the street.
really nice music stores (carrer tallers) and vintage little shops (right from ramblas).
dinner @ mcdonalds very good (even in barcelona) and got some delicious oreo ice cream @ dino's (from gino) and enjoyed a little sangria at a small square in the neigbourhood.
17/08
breakfast at 9 in the basement haha with weird croissants and jam that looked like something i cant describe and yoghurt and cornflakes and jus and tea and coffee and more...
then we took the metro from liceu (L3) to sagrada familia from gaudí.
we had to wait an hour to get to the top and it actually wasn't as stunning as i expected it to be... well the church itself was kind of nice but not so impressive,,
then headed to parc güell also by gaudí, it's really his city you can see him everywhere.
we kinda got lost but this woman at the supermarket helped us find our way (so did an older spanish guy but we couldnt understand him but he had the greatest fun)
we walked for hours (so it seemed) and finally ended up at the damn parc!
it was darn pretty so that made me feel good again.
saw casa mila balblbala and walked a little through the parc. then we went back to our little square and enjoyed some FINE tomatobread with a few drinks figuring out what to do next. went to starbucks and fnac next.
we picked out a vegetarian restaurant for that night cause saar is vegetarian and stuff so we were trying to find it but it wasnt there. turned out it was closed cause it was vacation time and not in the touristic zone (5 min. from ramblas.... crazy catalanians)
so we picked out another one and had curry with tofu and apple from oven and some sort of soup. it was kind of funny to eat there never been to a restaurant like that. i even had biological coke! mucho bueno.
got some more of that oreo icecream on the way back for a good night rest.
18/08
TOURISTIC DAY!!!!!!!!!!!
walked to plaça catalunya to take a bustour through the city.
there were actually 3 different lines you could take. a blue (sud), red (nord) and green (forum/beach area) line.
we started with the blue one which took us to the end of passeig de grácia (passed some gaudí houses) to the beginning of mount tibidabo. then further to montjuïc, another sort of mountain which looked over the sea. passed a lot of nice sights and castles and the stadium of FC barcelona (most guys went out here)
it was kind of a rainy day unfortunately
then at the end warming up @ starbucks with some venti vanilla latte and muffin.
then onto the red line which took us to the nord part of the city and was slightly less nice than the blue one.
after that we got out of the bus and walked towards the sea to do a little shopping.
picked out a restaurant for that night and finished the green tour through the youngest part of barcelona with a lot of new buildings and ugly shit.
then we had some dinner with fake pizza and quite nice salads and pasta and espresso and fruits.
on the way back we stopped for some sangria but we couldnt find a nice bar or something like it so we went into a real dumb one and just had beer.
we saw loads today!!!!!!!
19/08
sunday so we decided to go to the picasso museum. on the way over we were being plagued by scary women who sticked flowers in our clothes and asked a cent for them and they were getting in your wallet and being annoying and scary so we ditched the flowers and got rid of them.
it started raining again (why?)
the line for picasso was about a mile so we walked on by and went into a church to light a candle for nice weather and sunny skies. (santa maria del mar)
then we made a little tour with our umbrellas through the gothic district. also a very cute neighbourhood with the small streets. some houses had little heads sticking out of the wall which used to be a sign for a whorehouse lol
had espresso at a little coffeeplace next to the museum and visited the giftshop.
then we took the sub to the grácia district, a slightly more sophisticated areo to live.
that night there was a party and there were lots of decoration things up in the air and on the squares it was so much fun to see! everybody worked really hard and the decorations were really pretty and lot of work to make.
took the subway back home and bought some candy hihi
there are a lot of tramps here and beggers and weird people!!!
20/08
SUNNY SKIES AT LAST!
took the subway to avg. de tibidabo. from there we took the tramvia blau up the mountain. it was so cute. at the first stop we had to get into another more steep little tram/train thingie and headed to the top of the mountain. the weather was soooo nice!
in about half an hour we were there. there was a little themepark with a few rides which we didnt get into cause the ferris wheel was going insanely fast.
we enjoyed the view over the entire city and saw the sagrada and some more buildings and the sea. then we went into the church which actually were 2 churches on top of each other. the design from the one on top was inspired on the sacre coeur in paris. didnt really look alike. walked a little round around the top and then got back to the main square for some coffee and fries. we sat there and ejoyed the sun for an hour or something. it was so nice.
then we got back to the hotel to change for the beach!!!!!!
mailed some cards and took subway/bus to selva de mar.
it was a nice beach not that busy and we even took a swim it was gooooooood!
really nice water not at all cold it was lovely.
we didnt go home until 7.30 or smtn. real tired we stayed at the plaça reial for dinner, paella which wasnt that good but with the tomato bread we loved.
21/08
beach day (or at least we thought it would be)
a broken bikini so emergency stop at H&M
then to beach again but it was really cloudy with very little sun and wind and that made it not a really good day to be at the beach.
after a lot of blabla turning chaning and looking for shels to put on my necklace we went back home at around 3ish.
had some little tomatobread again at the thingie next door and oreo icecream @ dino.
we went for a little shopping to make up for it and ended up at starbucks where we stayed for 10 hours or something.
we walked back through the rain to change for dinner and everything.
we went to this GREAT restaurant just around the corner in the littlest street ever.
it was called TASTY and it was just such a pretty little restaurant. really white and modern and nice atmoshpere. they played an old movie at the white wall and the design of everything was just original and really pretty.
the food was also great. we had a mango sort of salad thingie and i had risotto with big shrimps and champi's and stuff and for desert cactus icecream!
i really enjoyed it there.
(thank you joey)
oh and they had great little bread
then for some final sangria across the square (the best one yet) a little more than we used to have but it was worth it. then we used that as an excuse to make stupid photos.
22/08
last day pack all of our shit back into our suitcases and leave them to enjoy the day in the city cause the plane wasnt leaving until 8:30 or smtn.
went to pg. de grácia for some lastminute shopping and it rained again of course.
then had some final starbucks vanilla latte and blueberry muffin. we sat there until 1 or so and headed back to plaça catalunya for lunch at the hardrockcafé.
we had to wait for about half an hour and got this alarm flash kind of thingie that would go off if we were able to get a table. there was some really nice ramones, iggy pop, fleetwood mac and lots of more stuff in there which i really enjoyed of course!!!!!! <3
and i ate a burger!!!!!!!
and it was good!!!!!!
we were being served by leonardo (but we were allowed to call him leo) who wrote us dank je wel. (that's thanks in dutch)
did some more shopping after that and actually got a backwards dress black n white and nailpolish and some gift thingies.
enjoyed our last drink at our square in the sun (finally) and got our suitcases from the hotel to go take the bus from catalunya to the airport.
we arrived very on time so we wondered around for a little and then waited.
the plane was only half full so we could sit anywhere we wanted that was nice.
well byebye barcelona hello normal life.

Nice story about Barcelona!
It's a beautifull city he.. did you see the Roy Liechtenstein sculpture near the yachtharbor?
Well... that's all I got to say for now ;)
See you monday!
Love Tasty by the way ;D
But I've read every word! :)
Good to know you and Sarah had lots of fun. The Catalanian people can be very egocentric...they talk spanish with a very different dialect and don't want to talk proper Spanish!
But I have great memories visiting parc güell, back in 2002...!
Ok, Hasta Luego. See ya at school!
(nice pics on your flickr-page!)
